What will happen at the first consultation?
Maria will ask you to fill out a confidential medical history form. A forty-eight hour food diary will be requested at the time of booking the appointment so you can go through this at the consultation together. Your lifestyle and other factors will be discussed to build an overall picture of you, and from that, we will ascertain your goals and think about how best to achieve them. Depending on your goals, you may be sent a meal plan for the first week. Any referrals that may be needed will be suggested at the first appointment. Referrals could range from personal training to help with relaxation techniques, and they are just suggestions, so the decision is always left to you.
Will my bowel habits be discussed?
Bowel habits are always discussed in the first consultation as this is key to the overall health of each individual.
How many sessions do I need?
Most people cannot make lifestyle changes in one session, change takes time! Maria normally suggests starting with a follow-up appointment after four weeks and is available to communicate by email and phone in-between appointments. After this, it will be a case of the level of contact that you feel you need, and giving yourself time to build a good and supportive working relationship in order to bring about change.
If I have any questions after the consultation do I have to wait until the next appointment?
No, everyone is welcome to email any questions and all emails will be responded to within 48 hours unless urgent.
Will I have any symptoms if I start eating differently?
Everyone is different and some people experience detox symptoms as they change daily habits. This is usually only temporary and anything that is worrying you Maria would urge you to discuss with her.
Will I have to take supplements?
Yes. Supplements will be recommended if deficiencies are found in the diet.It is very rare to meet anyone who can get all the right vitamins and minerals through food alone.
Will you weigh me?
Weighing people brings about all sorts of bad or good memories so this will be entirely up to the individual. It does make keeping track for weight loss clients easier. However, Maria prefers to focus on how you feel about yourself instead.
How long until I notice a difference?
Each person is different but if you follow the advice given then within a week you should start to notice changes.
