Reflux is awful for the parents and babies. It is an extremely distressing time. I have a couple of remedies which have been succesful for clients that have seen me for this issue. (Also from a personal note)
I have twins and they had awful reflux. I do post from experience on this particular post. When your baby is suffering there are no words to describe what us parents feel.
Helpless/frustration/anger/guilt/exhaustion
Unfortunately through desperation many of us parents turn to pharmaceuticals, (Idid too) these can have damaging side effects. The side effects are not explained to us parents.
They work initially and then can cause more harm after.
The below remedies are great to try first for nursing mothers but also non nursing mothers suffer too and the last few remedies may be of help.
Diet
I would suggest first and foremost the mothers diet is checked to see what foods are being consumed.
Are they healthy/ fresh/ Full of nutrients?
The baby sometimes reacts to the mothers allergies so eliminate any potential food sensitivities.
Remove all gluten and dairy for starters.
Steer clear or at least cut back on processed foods and sugar laden foods.
Gluten and dairy are the biggest culprits.
Sometimes if the mother is not digesting her food, that too can affect a nursing baby, the mother should relax when eating and never drink fluids too close before or after eating.
Optimum digestion is compromised if too many fluids are present.
PROBIOTICS (for mother and baby, nursing or not)
It may come as a surprise to new parents that infants and children can benefit from probiotics just as much or even more so than adults. In fact, right after birth is one of the parents’ greatest opportunities to help establish an optimal, life-long foundation of health for their child and themselves.
When I say probiotics I do not mean “probiotic” yogurts.
Most of these are NOT recommended for many reasons.
They are pasteurized and typically contain added sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, dyes, and/or artificial sweeteners, which can be detrimental to your health.
Without a well-functioning GI tract, your baby can’t get the proper nourishment to grow, or defend him/her self against pathogens. So getting his/her gut up and running efficiently is crucial.
Also a developing baby’s good digestive capabilities is also about building their bacterial (probiotic) colonies.
Mother and baby should both use supplemental probiotics and I use a company called USANA and if you use the below code you will recieve them at trade price and this means they are made in a pharmaceutical graded factory and are potency and absorbency guarranteed.
Be aware of taking bad probiotic supplements that can make matters worse. If the bacteria taken are not “live” then the body has to rid itself of that bad bacteria, and it can cause more work for your already stressed system.
Link for probiotic supplements, Just go to “SHOP NOW” and look for “PROBIOTICS”.
